Local Creative Team Earns Place in International Design/Copy Showcase

A brochure produced for the Michigan Department of Education by graphic designer Jill Wagner of Wagner Design and writer Linda Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Communications LLC will be featured in an upcoming book, CELayout: Making It Fit. The brainchild of design firm Bright Pink, the book is devoted to outstanding examples of layout design achieved "with extreme quantities of information, both large and small."

The winning brochure, titled "30 Ideas in 30 Days," was created to showcase innovative approaches to public school education being championed by Michigan State Superintendent of Education Tom Watkins. Written, designed and printed in just two weeks, the publication was chosen from hundreds of entries submitted by advertising agencies, marketing groups and free lancers around the globe.

When it was first presented, the "30 Ideas" brochure drew accolades from legislators, educators and interested citizens assembled on Mackinac Island in June of 2002 for the Annual Governor's Conference. At the 2002 American Advertising Awards Competition sponsored by the Ann Arbor Ad Club, an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), it won a Silver Citation and also received a Judges' Choice Award, a mark of special distinction and one of only four such honors presented at each competition.
