In Living Color
Saline, Michigan
Saline resident Jill Wagner is re-visiting her love of watercolor painting with an exhibition at Sweetwaters Cafe through May. A bachelor of fine arts graduate in painting from the University of Michigan, Wagner went into graphic design after graduation and currently owns her own firm, Wagner Design, in Ann Arbor. The company provides creative and advertising services for a wide range of corporate accounts, she said. When her daughter Amanda entered college a year and a half ago, Wagner began to paint again. "I knew I wanted to be an artist at the age of four," she said. "My mother told me I used to love taking crayons out of a box and lining them up in the colors of the rainbow. "I've always loved working with watercolor," she said. "It is really different from oil or acrylics. You layer the paint on and leave white space. You have to think ahead. "Watercolor is much 'fresher' somehow." Wagner said she prefers realistic representations of figures, landscapes and still lifes. Wagner's husband John is a high school teacher in Ida.
