Ann Arbor, Michigan – In a competition of marketing materials for local economic development companies, Ann Arbor SPARK was awarded two first place wins for materials designed by Wagner Design Associates. The wins came in the categories of “print marketing materials” and “website” for populations between 100,001 and 500,000. The competition, sponsored by the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA), is in its 5^th year. In 2009 the Lenawee Economic Development Corporation was awarded first place for “print marketing materials” designed by Wagner Design.

MEDA, an organization whose objective is to lead Michigan’s economic development through education, networking and advocacy on economic development, announced winners at an awards ceremony held in Traverse City on September 16^th.  All submissions were categorized by the size of the community represented by the economic development organization.  Then they were evaluated based on creativity, content and branding.

Take a look at Jill Wagner Art, a web site created by our team. You will see that we used key words such as pastels and watercolors and the artist’s name so that search engines will pick up on what the site is about. So, what does that accomplish?  Well, suppose you are interested in purchasing a watercolor or pastel painting. You’d probably go to Google and search with the terms, “watercolor pastel,” right?  Well, guess which site would come up on page one? That’s right, Jill Stefani Wagner.

By targeting geography in your search, you will get better results. Say you want to find Jill’s site, but you can’t remember her name. You can only recall that she’s a pastel artist in Michigan. So you search “pastel artist Michigan.” If the site is designed well and with good SEO, a searcher should still find her on page one. And, they will.

You may also notice that Jill’s listings are not highlighted yellow or off to the right side of the screen. Those are paid listings. Jill’s web site is in the area called “organic search” listings. She didn’t pay anyone to place her site on that page. Her site is there because of good web site design as well as great SEO.
