Ann Arbor, Michigan – In a competition of marketing materials for local economic development companies, Ann Arbor SPARK was awarded two first place wins for materials designed by Wagner Design Associates. The wins came in the categories of “print marketing materials” and “website” for populations between 100,001 and 500,000. The competition, sponsored by the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA), is in its 5^th year. In 2009 the Lenawee Economic Development Corporation was awarded first place for “print marketing materials” designed by Wagner Design.

MEDA, an organization whose objective is to lead Michigan’s economic development through education, networking and advocacy on economic development, announced winners at an awards ceremony held in Traverse City on September 16^th.  All submissions were categorized by the size of the community represented by the economic development organization.  Then they were evaluated based on creativity, content and branding.

Wagner Design Associates, a local advertising and graphic design firm, received a Silver ADDY in the Ann Arbor Ad Club’s 2010 ADDY Awards competition.

The silver ADDY was awarded to Wagner Design for a self-promotion flash piece. The online holiday card production featured warm holiday colors and morphing illustrations to accompany a warm greeting. The piece was designed to complement a pro bono calendar Wagner Design produced for Safehouse Center, a local community organization that offers refuge and support for women who have suffered domestic violence. Together both pieces reflect the hope and community spirit of Ann Arbor.

Wagner Design Associates recently created a magazine for Printwell Printing called Cover to Cover. From the wide scope of content to the unique design elements, this was a winning project. It was so successful that another edition is planned for the coming year, with our Ann Arbor graphic design and advertising firm slated to do the design and Linda Fitzgerald, of Fitzgerald Communications, to write copy.

The first edition magazine content explores many facets of the company and the printing industry itself. Some topics include, What Every Print Buyer Really Wants, The Search for Stability in a Printing Partner, Eco-Friendly Printing, and Finishing Touches for a Job Well Done. So, whether you’re coming to the magazine as a creative person, a print buyer, or just someone with an interest in learning more about printing, you’ll find something interesting in Cover To Cover.

The design features are great, too. Printwell is committed to green design and in one article you’ll see what soy ink looks like as well as learning about Printwell’s commitment to recycling and pollution control. What you’ll notice when you first touch the magazine is its unique feel. It could be described as soft and supple—almost like rubber and suede. At first touch, you might think it was an expensive paper, like Touché Cover, and it’s meant to mimic this type of paper, but it’s a varnish. So, for less cost, you can have the same effect. This is just one of the many cost effective print solutions that Printwell offers.

Every year CNN/Money Magazine issues a report on America’s Best 100 Best Places To Live. This July, Saline and Tecumseh, Michigan were both among the 2009 winners in the Small Towns category!  Tecumseh stood at the 93rd position and Saline was 68th. For Saline, this marks the third year in a row the city has been included in the list. Qualifications include financial performance, education, health, culture, housing, leisure, and quality of life. Our own Jill Wagner, partner and creative director of Wagner Design Associates, is a Saline resident. And, production artist and photographer, Kristin Rueger, resides in Tecumseh.
